WHAT IS THIS PLATFORM?

For the past five years, All Out has been running and winning campaigns for LGBT rights around the world.

All Out: Your Petitions is a new platform that puts All Out members in the front seat, allowing anyone to start their own online petitions related to LGBT issues. All you need to do is click 'start a campaign' on the top right hand side of the page.

While All Out manages this platform, campaigns here are not run or endorsed by All Out. You can see some of our official campaigns on our main website.

WHAT KINDS OF CAMPAIGN CAN I RUN?

All campaigns on the platform need to focus on LGBT issues.

Goes without saying: petitions that are defamatory, discriminatory, illegal - you get the idea - will not be accepted. It comes down to this: does your campaign promote or incite violence? Does it promote bullying, or advocate discrimination based on someone's gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, nationality, etc.? Is it defamatory? No? Excellent. We're all good.

We reserve the right to use our judgement and take something down if it crosses the line.

BESIDES STARTING A PETITION, WHAT ELSE CAN I DO WITH MY CAMPAIGN?

This is a tool that allows anyone, anywhere to run a campaign from start to end. You can use the platform to start your petition, share it with your friends and family, and communicate further with your supporters via email.

The platform also helps you take your campaign to the streets. For instance, you can download a blank copy of your petition, collect signatures in person and then enter your data easily into the system. You can also download a finished copy of your petition to print and deliver to your target. You can access all of these features from the 'Manage' page.

WHY CAN’T I TICK ALL THE CATEGORIES?

We limit the number of categories for each petition to a maximum of four. This helps users easily find the petitions they're most interested in.

I CREATED A CAMPAIGN, BUT IT SAYS IT'S "AWAITING MODERATION". WHY?

Online petitions are a powerful tool to trigger change, but they can also generate backlash and harm the very people you are trying to help - especially if you're campaigning on a topic as sensitive as LGBT rights.

Our team moderates all campaigns created on the platform to weigh any potential negative consequences to the people who will be impacted by the petition. We try to moderate campaigns as quickly as possible, but you should expect a response in no more than 24 hours.

HOW DO I EDIT MY PETITION?

You can do that in the 'Manage' page. If you go to your petition page, you will see a button that says ‘Manage’, near the top of your petition on the right-hand side of the title. Once you’re in the ‘Manage’ page, click ‘Edit petition’, on the menu in the right-hand side.

HOW CAN I ADD OR CHANGE THE PICTURE IN MY PETITION?

You can do that by logging in to the platform, and clicking on the campaign you wish to edit.

Click the option 'Edit content’ and then click the button under 'Image' to either add an image or replace the one you have on your campaign page.

WHY CAN'T I EDIT THE ASK ON MY PETITION?

Once people have signed your petition you can’t change the ‘ask’ – this is because the people who’ve signed put their name to a certain ask and it wouldn’t be fair to them if we changed it afterwards, right?

CAN I CONTACT PEOPLE WHO SIGNED MY PETITION?

Yes, you can send emails to your supporters by logging in to the platform, and clicking on your campaign.

Click ‘Email supporters’ and follow the instructions. You can send up to three updates per week.

HOW MANY EMAILS CAN I SEND TO MEMBERS WHO HAVE SIGNED MY PETITION?

You can send a maximum of three per week.

HOW CAN I COLLECT MORE SIGNATURES?

There are loads of different tactics that can help make a campaign more effective and get the word out: from keeping people engaged on social media to hosting your very own press conference, to spreading the word in your local community!

We recommend you start by sharing your petition with everyone you know on Facebook, Twitter, and via email.

You can also collect signatures on paper - go to your petition page and you will see a button that says ‘Manage’, near the top of your petition on the right-hand side of the title. In the 'Manage' page, you’ll be able to print petition sheets and collect signatures in person. Just click 'Collect signatures on paper', in the menu on the right-hand side.

Another good tip is to write to people who’ve signed your petition and ask them to share it with their friends and family (to find out how to contact your signers, see the above question ‘Can I contact people who signed my petition?’).

HOW CAN I PROMOTE MY CAMPAIGN WITHOUT SOCIAL MEDIA?

Social media is a great way to grow your petition – if you’re able to make a Facebook or Twitter account, that can be a big help! But if not, don’t worry. You can still email your friends, family, and colleagues about your petition or print off paper petition forms.

CAN I CHANGE THAT MY PETITION ONLY HAS 100 SIGNATURES?

The signature counter will automatically update as your petition gets more signatures – so don’t worry. There’s no cap on the number of signatures you can collect.

HOW DO I SEE WHO'S SIGNED MY PETITION?

You can do that in the 'Manage' page. If you go to your petition page, you will see a button that says ‘Manage’, near the top of your petition on the right-hand side of the title. Once you’re in the ‘Manage’ page, click ‘Deliver petition’. You can then click ‘Download printable PDF’, which will show the names and country of all the people who’ve signed your petition.

CAN A PETITION HAVE MULTIPLE ADMINS?

Yes! First go to the ‘Manage’ page - go to your petition page and you will see a button that says ‘Manage’, near the top of your petition on the right-hand side of the title. Once you’re in the ‘Manage’ page, click ‘Campaign Admins’ in the menu on the right-hand side. You can then email invitations to future co-admins.

WHY CAN’T I FIND MY CAMPAIGN BY SEARCHING FOR IT ON THE SITE?

Not every campaign will appear in the list of petitions on the site. This is so the team at All Out can highlight petitions that we think will particularly appeal to our members.

Don’t worry, though: petition pages are still live and open for people to sign even if they don’t appear in the list. And since almost all your signatures will come from people sharing your petition, whether or your petition appears in the list will not affect the success of your campaign.

HOW DO I MAKE THE ADDRESS ON MY CAMPAIGN PAGE SHORTER?

You can do that by logging in to the platform, and clicking on your campaign. Then go to 'Settings'. You should see an option for setting up a short URL for your campaign.

I’M GOING TO DELIVER MY PETITION. SHOULD I END THE PETITION?

Not yet! After you deliver your petition signatures, it’s a good idea to keep your petition open. This way, you can get in touch with petition signers to let them know what happens after the hand-in, and continue the campaign if you need to.

CAN I CANCEL MY PETITION?

You can do that by logging in to the platform, and clicking on your campaign. Then go to 'Settings'. Scroll down and you should see an option for hiding your petition. Your petition will now no longer be visible to the public.

HOW DOES ALL OUT DECIDE WHICH CAMPAIGNS GO ON THE HOMEPAGE?

A number of factors contribute to what campaigns are highlighted on the homepage. If your campaign performs very well and people are responding to it, then it stands a strong chance of getting featured on the homepage. However, this does not guarantee every campaign a place on the homepage.

Some of the other factors include: if the campaign is on the edge of winning, if it's particularly timely, if it has shown rapid growth, etc.

CAN ALL OUT SEND OUT MY CAMPAIGN TO MEMBERS AROUND THE WORLD?

A number of factors contribute to what campaigns get sent to All Out members.

If your campaign performs very well and people are responding to it, then it stands a strong chance of being sent to All Out members around the world. Some of the other factors include: if the campaign is on the edge of winning, if it's particularly timely, if it has shown rapid growth, etc.

I DON'T WANT THE SIGNERS OF MY PETITION TO CONTACT ME. HOW CAN I DISABLE THAT?

You can do that in the 'Manage' page. If you go to your petition page, you will see a button that says ‘Manage’, near the top of your petition on the right-hand side of the title. Once you’re in the ‘Manage’ page, uncheck the box 'Supporters can contact me'.

I NO LONGER WISH TO RECEIVE UPDATES ON A PETITION I SIGNED. HOW DO I UNSUBSCRIBE?

It's sad to see you go, but you can unsubscribe by clicking the 'Unsubscribe' link in the email you got after you signed the petition.

I’VE WON MY CAMPAIGN! WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Congratulations! You should go ahead and add an update to the page explaining the success of your campaign.

You can do that in the 'Manage' page. Go to your petition page and you will see a button that says ‘Manage’, near the top of your petition on the right-hand side of the title. Once you’re in the ‘Manage’ section, click ‘End Campaign’ and follow the instructions to write about your success!

I’VE LOST MY CAMPAIGN. WHAT DO I DO?

Don’t give up - keep campaigning! You can start a new petition, or look for new ways to keep your campaign going.
