To: The Constitution of Zimbabwe and the legislation body.

Decriminalise LGBTIQ consentual sex for the Gay community in Zimbabwe.

Decriminalise LGBTIQ consentual sex for the Gay community in Zimbabwe.

The people and the LGBT community of Zimbabwe should have the freedom of choice to love any person of their choice. We petition to question laws in the Constitution to do with homosexual laws that criminalise same sex consensual intercourse and gay relationships.

I believe in justice for all, be it females, males, lgbtiq people or any members who belong to a particular social group or status, religion, race etc. I dream of a time when all of humanity is free from persecution, judgment or any form of inhumane treatment because they are different.

The use of authoritarian legislation to discriminate, persecute and marginalise the minority class of human beings particularly in aspects of MSM,LGBTIQ,and LGBTIQ parenting is wholly unconstitutional. I stand for equality and I want to make Pride and Queer a norm!Together we can make Pride a norm ⚢ and eliminate brutality and anti-semitism within our communities.

I call to you all people of Zimbabwe, Activists and all other individuals of the free world to petition with me and free all the voiceless queer members facing the atrocities of the Zimbabwean Constitution and legislation body.

'We,the marginalised LGBT community of Zimbabwe seek the repeal and replacement of homosexual laws!'

Until the Sodomy Law was passed in 2006 under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, colonial-era laws were used to punish sexual activity between two persons of the same sex. After 2006, the law was extended to criminalize two people of the same-sex holding hands, hugging and kissing, terming such “indecent acts” as sexual crimes.
The specific clauses in the Act read:
1. Any male person who, with the consent of another male person, knowingly performs with that other person anal sexual intercourse, or
any act involving physical contact other than anal sexual intercourse that would be regarded by a reasonable person to be an indecent act, shall be guilty of sodomy and liable to a fine up to or exceeding level fourteen or imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or both.
2. Subject to subsection (3), both parties to the performance of an act referred to in subsection (1) may be charged with and convicted of sodomy.

Why is this important?

It will free the gay and lesbian community of Zimbabwe to attain 'freedom of choice and to love' the person of their choice without any fear from judgment and persecution.

Transgender people are at particular risk; easy targets for the policing of appearance, with limited recourse to justice.

This petition is a voice to the voiceless, an ear to the deaf and an eye to the blind.

You and me can transform and change the brutality of the legislation to the queer people in Zimbabwe.

Reasons for signing

  • I sign this petition because i believe every human being should be allowed to love who he or she loves without any discrimination
  • We are not God.
  • Stop persecuting LGBT people. What do you expect to gain from that? You're causing a lot of harm to a lot of your citizens by pursuing this draconian course. Other countries of the world are watching Zimbabwe and hoping for better treatment of your citizens.

The law needs to determine between forced sodomy (rape) and consentual sodomy (sex) between parties. The law is continously used to worsen people's lives and we ought to look at this. Wher a crime has been committed, justice has to play it's role with dignity and application of just rule of law.

When all hope seems lost because of who you are.
Listen to another face of Zimbabwe who protected their breath to see another day because of them being different.
No human being deserves to be persecuted because of who they are, not any one should be persecuted based on sexual orientation.
Here is Tatelicious Karigambe a living testimony of persecution borne in Zimbabwe :

During the United Nations sitting, the president Robert Mugabe undermined the existence of the LGBTIQ+ community that left thousands of Zimbabwe LGBT living in fear and others displaced.
We are fighting the atrocities directed to the LGBT by our government officials. These are the statesman accorded the power to protect its people but rather are found thwarting those rights.

Peace ,courage and hope to all you Allies and Activists out there.

Working as a human rights defender and queer right Activists, on a regular basis we find ourselves attacked and displaced by homophobic actors. I am sad to announce that I am currently displaced and have seeked refuge in another country. #I resist. I have been distributing Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Equality merchandise that were construed as an attack to the morals and norms of my country thus was deemed as advertising immorality.
Hope and peace to you all.

“The constitution prohibits the marriage of the same sex [so] same-sex relationships are not allowed and we have not recognized any rights that are attached to LGBT.”Mabhiza acknowledges that stating one’s sexual orientation as gay is not a crime, but says it is a crime to engage in a same-sex relationship. The government’s somewhat flexible interpretation of the constitution’s language regarding same-sex marriage gives police, in particular, and society, in general, leeway to persecute LGBT people, Samba says. Police act with impunity, even when formal charges can’t be filed, he adds. There are discrepancies between the constitution and the criminal code, says Tonderai Bhatasara, a lawyer who has represented LGBT people. The constitution only prohibits same-sex marriage. But the criminal code criminalizes sodomy, including consensual sex between two male adults.

We have recognised June as our Pride month and we have seen the Rainbow 🌈 flag added new colours black and brown for our fellow queer people of colour. We have further seen the first gentleman of Brussels shine with other first ladies and the new Prime minister of Ireland is one of ours. We have not failed! We are winning even though our adversaries stand in arms against us. Let's keep the flags up high. We are winners!
To our fellow marginalised Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe, we say our time is near.We will win. It starts with one thing, resisting marginalisation and recognising our rights.
Viva la GALZ!

Africa remains one of the continents of the world with an alarming number of countries that persecute the gay community. Zimbabwe being one of the countries I am concerned about. Gay people are subject to discrimination in the health services, employment sectors and universities to mention just a few. I reiterate that your signature will help alleviate this ongoing animosity to humanity. LGBTIQ rights are human rights. Persecution to one is injustice to all.
Join me in this campaign and help your fellow brothers and sisters.

There's never been a better time like now in the history of transformation in Zimbabwe!
Regime change will bring in transformation from the authoritarian legislation in the country. In 2018 July,as Zimbabwe goes to polls we need to have our petit ions ready. We need gay laws to be part of the laws that shall be considered for repeal.
A lot of families have been dispersed to different countries due to the ongoing persecution of men who have sex with men. The health sector overlooks the gay community. LGBTIQ is treated like a taboo. Activists find it very difficult to bring in gay education and awareness to families due to the imminent threats and persecution of people who share such knowledge.
Pledge with me in signing this petition and save a life.Gay men and women in Zimbabwe needs you more than ever.

On the 18th April 2017,Zimbabwe marked it's 37th year of independence. It was unfortunate that the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commissioner and pastor (Ms Petunia Chiriseri )in her position of power created a rhetoric with a narrative that discrimated against the LGBTIQ community in Zimbabwe. This happened during a speech that she made on this auspicious day. This speech has accumulated a lot of concerns in the country that could put the gay community in danger as it seemingly was endorsed by people in power.
Thenceforth, to all the Activists and peace makers.Sign this petition so that we fix the loopholes of discrimination and homophobia in the country of Zimbabwe.
